First weeks in Hungary

You can say what you want about Facebook,
but if it weren't around these pictures wouldn't be either.
Thanks for the save on this one Mark Zuckerberg!

Upon arrival a Saturday afternoon we were picked up by some collegues of Cams who came armed with two large vans, one to fit our family and the other to haul our 15 large suitcases.
It was quite the sight as 5 of us Mack and Creed included pushed large carts from the baggage claim through a crowd of people who were
lined up on both sides behind velvet ropes making room for our caravan.
If I hadn't had a million thoughts going through my head all at the same time
I may have tried to act glamourous and pretend it was a red carpet event. hehe

Our permanent house wasn't ready for us to move into yet so we stayed in a 5 bedroom penthouse apartment for the first 6 days.
Which actually had it not been for the issue of having kids and dog I wouldn't have minded staying there permanently.
It was modern and fun on the inside and gorgeous European baroque architecture
 on the outside.
This is the first of many pictures that hopefully someday will be recovered.

Monday morning came all to soon and the fun started. Cam was at work and flying that very day and even again the next. The boys and I were left to try to figure out what to do.
A very overwhelming and daunting task for me, I tried to act normal and not
let my kids know I was worried or apprehensive because that is not something I wanted
them to pick up on.
I want them to be fearless and adventurous and take life by the horns.
It was a fine line I walked those first few weeks for sure.

Our first Saturday outing took us the Var (castle) district. It is on the Buda side overlooking Pest and Parlament. It is the oldest part of the city filled with Castles, rich in history and an absolute stunning place to absorb the culture not only in sights but also in food and hungarian artisans. Even better is its only 10 minutes from our house.
It ended up being a great first stop to get our family excited about what our European adventures are going to be filled with.

Many years ago Cam's brother Mitch took one of Cam's Hungarian photography books and picked  a photo and then painted a re-creation of it for him.
We have always loved the piece and especially his thoughtfulness and talent.

I knew it was in Budapest somewhere but didn't put too much thought into where until we were walking around the Var and I saw the spot.
Cam of course knew all along that we would be seeing that day but didn't tell any of us.
He was hoping we would connect the dots on our own. It didn't take long for any of us.

our attempt of trying to remember the exact pose and location. We were close. We hadn't seen the painting in 3 months since we packed everything up. So our attempt was close don't you think.
some fun fountains downtown by the embassy that always entertains my kids along with many others with its varying heights and sprays. You never know when you are going to miss time them and get soaked.
Its happened! :)
Hosok Ter (Heroes Square) in the heart of Pest. Paying tribute to many of Hungary's revolutionary heroes.
