Germany's Fairytale Castle

Neuschwanstein is known all over the world as a symbol of idealised romantic architecture and for the tragic story of its ambitious yet troubled owner Ludwig II.
Or as more commonly referred to as Disney's castle. Apparently, this castle is what inspired Sleeping Beauty's castle and thus the castle in all the theme parks.
That was enough to get us onboard with visiting it while in the area after our few days of skiing. If you haven't noticed we sort of have a soft spot for castles.

It was kind of a long straight up-hill walk and we saw plenty of this along the way. Coming from  those who opted for the less challenging way to the castle being pulled in a horse drawn carriage.

Hohenschwangau castle is right at the bottom of the hill which was built by his father and was his childhood home.

I thought this "little" pole in the center of the town was a super cute way to direct you to local shops and businesses.
